Your vacation doesn’t start when you check in. It begins the moment you set out on your journey. If you’re well-prepared from the start, you’ll arrive more relaxed—and can enjoy the first days of your vacation right from the beginning.
The good news: Saalbach Hinterglemm is easily accessible any time of year. Whether by car, train, or plane—getting to the THOMSN is easier than many people think.
For many guests, driving remains the most convenient way to travel here. Depending on your starting point, there are several easy routes to Saalbach Hinterglemm. If you’re traveling via Austrian highways, you’ll need a valid highway vignette. However, if you’re coming from Germany, you can also take a toll-free route via Lofer, Saalfelden and Maishofen.
The final few kilometers lead through the Glemm Valley directly to Hinterglemm, without any complicated turns or long searches.
Free parking spaces are available at the THOMSN. There is also an open garage. Parking spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
The big advantage: Once your car is parked, it often stays there. Thanks to the central location, mountain railways, ski slopes, hiking and biking trails, restaurants, a supermarket, and many other amenities are all within easy walking distance.
More and more guests are consciously choosing to travel by train. The Zell am See and Maishofen-Saalbach train stations are good starting points for continuing your journey to the Glemm Valley. Depending on your departure location and connection, it’s worth comparing the two stations.
Maishofen-Saalbach is now also served by direct trains from Vienna. Zell am See also offers numerous domestic and international train connections. You should check the current schedule directly with ÖBB or WESTbahn before booking.
From there, bus line 680 continues on to Saalbach Hinterglemm. The “Hinterglemm Zwölferkogelbahn” stop is particularly convenient for guests staying at the THOMSN: it’s only about 450 meters—or roughly a six-minute walk—to the hotel.
If you have a lot of luggage, a taxi remains a convenient alternative. There is a taxi stand at the Zell am See train station. The THOMSN front desk can also assist you in arranging a transfer.
The Guest Mobility Ticket offers real added value for all guests.
It allows guests to use all public transportation throughout the state of Salzburg free of charge during their stay.
Especially convenient: If you plan to arrive by train or bus, you can start using the ticket as early as your arrival day. All you need to do is send a quick message to the front desk. THOMSN will register your stay in advance so that the ticket is available for your arrival.
Traveling by plane is also straightforward. The nearest airports are:
Salzburg (SZG): approx. 87 km | about 1 hour 30 minutes
Innsbruck (INN): approx. 161 km | about 2 hours 40 minutes
Munich (MUC): approx. 214 km | about 2 hours 45 minutes
Shuttle services, rental cars and public transportation are available from all airports. If you’d like to book a transfer in advance, you can easily do so at www.austriatransfer.com.
